Flow premiered at the Musikwoche Hitzacker 2025, hosted by the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. This minimalist composition for three percussionists explores the delicate and resonant world of tuned water bowls and other water-based instruments. At its core are porcelain bowls, each tuned by varying the amount of water inside. “Finding the perfect bowls was a challenge—I often startled customers in shops by tapping each bowl to test its sound,”. While these everyday objects are found in most homes, few realize their potential as instruments capable of carrying an entire composition.
The piece was inspired by the proverb: “If you remove a stone from a river, you change its entire course over time.” This idea of small changes having lasting effects flows through the music itself.Flow is structured in four movements—River, Tears, Rain, and Sparkling—each evoking a distinct water-related theme and emotional landscape.
